Battle of the Beauty Box

Battle of the Beauty Box

It’s no secret that I love beauty boxes however, that love doesn’t mean I always love what I get in each subscription box. So I’ve decided to make this post a battle of the beauty boxes. Ipsy Box VS Sephora Play Box. First we will discuss the products in each box, then I’ll give my thoughts on the products and lastly I will determine a winner for this months beauty box battle.

Ipsy Bag – I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream…This bag is inspired by a favorite Summer time treat, and is water resistant, so it can make a splash at pool parties.

Pur-lisse – BB Tinted Moist Cream SPF 30 in shade medium: Primer. Tinted Moisturizer. Foundation. Sunscreen. These are just a few reasons to love this product. This is crazy creamy, mineral-based BB and is sprinkled with Asian Herb extracts complex (AKA unicorn dust) that soothes your skin and creates a gorgeous, supernatural glow. This moisturizing formula is fabulous for all skin types. Yes, even dry, sensitive, and acne-prone.

Urban Decay – Afterglow in Sin: If you are looking for an IRL version of that amazing Snapchat filter glow, this champagne-hued highlighter is IT. This powder formula is finely milled, which means it’s creamy AF, but still lightweight. This long-wearing luminizer keeps your glow game strong! Shine on (and on, and beyond) be fabulously you.

TreStique Mini Matte Lip Crayon – Tuscan Wine: Love the look of lip crayons, but not the uncomfortable, heavy feeling? This buttery-soft lippie knows what’s up! It looks like a super opaque lipstick, bu it’s really lightweight, so you won’t even know it’s there. It perfected the art of being moisturizing AND matte at the same time, thanks to yummy-sounding ingredients like Vitamin E, Monoi de Tahiti butter, and coconut oil. The rich, bold red hue gives you the confidence you need for a first date. (Sorta like Merlot!)

Hey Honey – Besame Mucho: The product name translates to “Kiss me a lot,” so you know going to work wonders for your lips. Heard of propolis? Neither had I. It’s an extract from beehives that both hydrates and is antibacterial. This balm has loads of it, plus shea butter.

Luxie Beauty – Luxie Dreamcatcher Precision Foundation Brush 660: This brush is genius and great for multitasking. You can use it for all your liquid, cream or powder foundations, concealers, highlighters, AND bronzers. This fluffy beauty is also 100% vegan and cruelty-free.

Sephora Play

The Bag – Everyone can enjoy a play filled day, even a play on words. With this clear bag with bright red wording “Play” you will surely get noticed.

Nudestix – Magnetic Matte Lip Color in Greystone: A three-in-one matte lip stain, lip color, and lip liner that has a long-wearing, intensely pigmented formula in a bold, deep shade. This color-rich, preservative free formula was created by a beauty industry veteran and her daughters.

TATCHA – Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil: Two-in-one makeup remover and cleanser uses plant-based oils to gently wash away impurities without stripping skin of it’s natural moisture. Like all the Tatcha product’s, the ingredients in this cleanser is formulated based on ancient Japanese beauty traditions. For centuries, Camellia oil has been coveted for its ability to soothe and nurture skin.

Belif – Hungarian Water Essence: Ultra-light, super-hydrating treatment quickly delivers deep, lasting moisture for soft, supple skin. This lightweight elixir deeply hydrates over time and delivers highly effective antioxidants using lavender, rosemary, and other soothing botanicals.

TreStique – Highlight: This silky-smooth gel highlighter stick pairs a barely-there, lightweight texture with a luminous champagne pink shimmer. This product helps simplify your beauty routine and is packed with vitamins thanks to the coconut oil enhanced formula.

Rahua – Omega 9 Hair Mask: Salon-quality conditioning treatment made with omega-rich oil soaks into damaged or dull hair to add shine and vibrancy. This professional-strength formula from one of New York’s most sought-after hairstylists features rare rainforest grown Rahua nut oil, which Amazonian tribes have used for generations to get lustrous hair.

Tocca – Stella: A flirtatious, uplifting blend of sensual blood orange and spicy lily creates a warm, fresh perfume that’s perfect for springtime.

So now that we know what each box included let’s get down to the nitty-gritty where I give my opinions and impressions.

IPSY – I love Urban Decay products, and the Sin highlighter didn’t disappoint, it’s pigmented and goes on nicely. The Luxie Brush is perfect for applying my makeup and leaves a flawless finish. I hadn’t heard of TreStique but was pleasantly surprised by this lip crayon, it’s very rich and creamy, and has a beautiful color pay off. I really do love it. The Pur-lisse BB cream, has a nice fragrance and is the perfect shade; but it has a sticky texture, almost like a residue was being left behind when applying it, and it only provides minimal coverage, for these reasons I can’t love this product. The Hey Honey is a good chapstick, and works nicely to hydrate dried out lips, but it’s not something I would use on a regular basis. Lastly the bag, it’s very childish, cheaply made, not something I would ever use; furthermore it claims to be “waterproof” and I can assure you that it’s absolutely NOT! The only splash this bag will make is if you toss it in the pool and jump in afterwards to save it from sinking to the bottom!

Sephora Play

I LOVE highlighters almost as much as I love glitter, so it should come as no surprise that I was automatically drawn to the TreStique highlighter. It is very pigmented and smooth, if you don’t own it, you should go pick one up now, you won’t regret it. Next up is the Belif Hungarian water essence, for some reason I thought it would be a cream but it’s more of a gel minus any sticky residue, it’s so hydrating and while it does have a mild scent it’s not overwhelming. The Tatcha oil is a nice cleanser, it gently removed my makeup and didn’t irritate my skin so for me it was a win/win. Tocca’ Stella fragrance is amazing, it’s the perfect blend of spice and floral and screams beautiful, definitely a new favorite of mine. The Rahua hair mask is absolutely wonderful, it left my hair feeling salon fresh without breaking my wallet and it smells nice too. The Nudestix lip crayon, I don’t know which I disliked more the odd shape or the color. I thought the color would be a nice brown, but it’s only a few shades away from black, and the shape made it difficult to apply; when blotted this color has an orange-ish tint and is not something I liked to say the least. The beauty bag is cute, it’s clear plastic with the word “Play” in bright red, and is clasped with a single button; the design itself reminds me an envelope.

There you have it, all the ins-and-outs of each bag with my thoughts and opinions. I began this thinking it would be a hard decision because I love both beauty boxes but as I’ve stated I don’t always love the products I get, with that thought in mind I believe this month’s winner in the battle of the beauty boxes is……SEPHORA PLAY BOX!!!

What did you think of this beauty battle? Which box would you choose Ipsy or Play by Sephora? Which products do you look forward to using? Let me know in the comments below, and be sure to follow my blog to stay up-to-date with even more amazing product reviews.
