It’s that time of the month again when I compare my IPSY Bag and Sephora Play Box and choose which one I love the most. For those just joining us, IPSY and Sephora are both beauty box subscriptions ($10 per month), they send 4-5 beauty items each month, I compare those beauty items and determine a beauty box champion for the month.
Sephora Play theme “A Change of Face”
Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel in Medium – Volumzing, water-resistant fiber gel mimics the look of real hair to create thick, lush-looking brows.
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Black – Easy to apply, waterproof liquid eyeliner with a precision tip, dries fast with no smudges or running.
DevaCurl Melt into Moisturize Matcha Butter conditioning mask – Deep conditioning mask, cares for curly or wavy hair and infuses it with moisture for soft, frizz-free hair.
Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour in Happy – Highly pigmented yet moisturizing lip color with satiny yet matte metallic finish.
Belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb – Rich, satiny cream delivers comforting, intense hydration that helps to soften and visibly smooth skin.
Stella McCartney POP – A celebration of self-expression and independence, this bold, contemporary scent layers bright floral notes over a base of sandalwood.
IPSY theme “Like.A.Boss”
IPSY BAG – I love the IPSY bag this month! All black, faux leather, and spiked. Is there anything more Like.A.Boss. than the September Glam Bag design? I think not!
ColourPop Cosmetics Ultra Glossy Lip in IPSY VIP – This exclusive lipgloss shade was created in collab with our favorite peeps (ipsters). It’s shiny, cushiony, and comfy with none of the stick factor that other glosses have. Want to fake fuller lips? Just a little dab of this gloss in the center of your lip makes your mouth look extra kissable. **NOTE** This is a gloss, is isn’t sticky but it also isn’t kiss proof, so be prepared for a bit of transfer.
Luxie Beauty Rose Gold Medium Angled Shading Eye Brush 207 – This brush as with all Luxie beauty brushes that I have used, is amazing and super soft! Not only does the angled shape help you blend any eye look like a boss, but you can *also* use it for all your favorite cream and powder shadows. The rose gold color is beautiful and looks amazing on any vanity. Plus, this fluffy, synthetic bristled beauty is 100% cruelty-free.
Elizabeth Mott POP! Goes The Shadow in Gunmetal – This velvety baby blends like a dream, no streaks, no creasing, no need to #unsubscribe. Your eye look will be on lockdown and stay in place throughout your day. Gunmetal is a smoldery, steely gray that also looks rad as a liner.
P.R.M.I.T Beauty GELlusion in September (Virgo) – You’re too busy taking over the world to deal with chipped nails. This polish is ultra-opaque and chip-resistant for major boss babe mani vibes. Animal lovers rejoice: It’s legit PETA certified (AKA 100% vegan and cruelty-free). Virgo is a deep sapphire shade that everyone (not just Virgo babes) will want to wear.
SKINFOOD Black Sugar Mask Wash Off – SOKO GLAM COLLAB: Chosen for ipsters by boss babe/Soko Glam co-founder Charlotte Cho. This sugar-infused mask combines our two favorite things (skincare and sweets) to make getting a smooth, baby soft complexion a piece of cake. Dry, dehydrated skin? Not anymore. This magically moisturizing stuff exfoliates and boosts moisture. This is a sweet, all-natural blend of organic black sugar, shea butter and macadamia oil.
So now that we have seen what’s in each bag let’s discuss my thoughts on them in more detail starting with the Sephora Play Bag. I actually enjoy the material of the bag itself, it feels like satin and is a nice pink. I’m not a person who does their eyebrows a lot, I tend to let them do their own thing, so getting the Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow product wasn’t my favorite item, but I do think it’s totally cute and I’ve read more positive reviews about this product than negative so I think if you’re into doing your eyebrows than this would be a nice product for you to try out. I was surprised by the Stila eyeliner, I always say I have “enough” eyeliners but was pleasantly surprised by this eyeliner, but it works so well, it’s definitely one of my new favorites and a close second to my Kat Von D eyeliner. I was happy to receive the DevaCurl hair product since I have curly/wavy hair, I think it has a nice light scent but it did feel sticky/tacky in my hands. I applied it to my hair and then rinsed it out after a few minutes and it seemed to be fine but I haven’t left it overnight which it states you can do. I’ve never had a Laura Mercier product so was happy to receive the Velour Lovers Lipstick in Happy, but it was a let down sadly. It was nowhere near as pigmented as I had hoped for and is more of a pink than red shade, it has some glitter/shimmer to it but doesn’t have long stay power so I’m going to be giving this away. I LOVE the Belif moisturizing bomb, all the Belif products I have used so far have been amazing, they hydrate my skin so well without leaving it feeling greasy or weighed down. If you have dry skin I highly recommend the Belif products because they are wonderful!! I had never heard of Stella McCartney POP before I received it in my Play Box, I could have spent the rest of my life not knowing about this product and would have been just fine. The scent was a lot like mixing Deet mosquito spray and rock candy together, definitely not my favorite and not something I would purchase or recommend. Now let’s talk about IPSY, the Ipsy bag this month is totally cute, I love that it’s fashionable. I enjoy ColourPop products and received the IPSY VIP, it’s less sticky/tacky than I expected it to be since its a lip gloss, like all lip gloss this isn’t kiss proof but it’s a nice color. I enjoy all my Luxie Beauty brushes, this brush is no different, it’s soft and fluffy and can be used to do many looks easily. I hadn’t heard of Elizabeth Mott until I tried this product out. It’s a pretty shadow that blends nicely, it does create a gorgeous smokey eye look which is perfect for Fall time. I’m not a huge nail polish fan, but I really like the color I received, I did notice it was easy to chip off contrary to what it had said. I LOVE this Skinfood, it’s so wonderful, it exfoliates so well without being overly harsh to my face, and didn’t irritate my skin or cause breakouts. I used it each morning prior to applying makeup so I could always have a smooth canvas to work with. I really enjoy it and would recommend it to anyone that suffers from dry and flaky skin that needs a nice product to exfoliate.
There you have the good, bad, and ugly of both beauty boxes, this month wasn’t my greatest month of beauty products from Sephora Play & IPSY but one did out battle the other. I believe this month’s beauty box champion is….IPSY!! I hope you have enjoyed learning about these products. If you received these boxes this month, who do you think should have won the battle? Which product was your favorite? As always thank you for stopping by, be sure to follow me so you can stay up-to-date with even more wonderful products & reviews.
